Iboga Ceremony in Vancouver, BC

A full ceremonial iboga experience rooted in the Bwiti tradition. Medical screening required. On-site physician throughout. $2,000–$5,000 CAD.

Iboga ceremony is the primary offering at ExploreBwiti. It is a full ceremonial experience rooted in the Bwiti tradition of Central Africa — not a clinical ibogaine session, not a recreational experience, but a genuine ceremonial encounter with the sacred root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga plant.

What Iboga Ceremony Involves

The ceremony begins with preparation — the accumulated work of medical screening, dietary preparation, and intention-setting that precedes every ceremony. The ceremony itself takes place over 12–24 hours, with a facilitator and on-site medical professional present throughout.

During the ceremony, participants experience a state that is difficult to describe from outside it: extended visionary states, deeply detailed autobiographical memory review, and a quality of pattern recognition that is not available in ordinary consciousness. Behavioural and emotional habits that have been invisible precisely because they were too close to see become visible. The experience is demanding. It is also clarifying.

Ibogaine — the primary active alkaloid — works on the dopamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine systems simultaneously. This multi-system action is what produces the distinctive combination of iboga's effects. After the ceremony, ibogaine converts to noribogaine in the body, a metabolite that remains active for weeks to months and continues the neurological reorganisation that begins during ceremony.

Timeline

The preparation period varies by individual but typically involves 2–4 weeks of coordination — medical screening, bloodwork, cardiac evaluation, medication review, and preparation briefing. The ceremony itself lasts 12–24 hours. A recovery period of 2–3 days follows, during which participants rest and begin the initial integration of what arose. Integration coaching sessions are available in the weeks following ceremony and are strongly recommended.

Who This Is For

Iboga ceremony at ExploreBwiti is for people who are genuinely seeking to address something significant in their lives — not for curiosity or recreation. The people who come to us are typically dealing with addiction that has not responded to conventional treatment, depression or PTSD that has been present for years, a profound sense of disconnection from purpose and direction, or a readiness to engage seriously with the question of how they are actually living.

Who This Is Not For

Iboga is not appropriate for everyone. Absolute contraindications include certain cardiac conditions, severe liver or kidney disease, active psychosis, pregnancy, and current use of SSRIs or SNRIs (without completing a supervised taper). If you are in acute psychiatric crisis or are not psychologically stable, this is not the right moment for this work.

We screen every applicant thoroughly. If you are not an appropriate candidate, we will tell you directly. We do not screen people in to meet a quota.

After Ceremony

The immediate post-ceremony period involves physical rest and emotional sensitivity. Over the following weeks, the insights of ceremony tend to continue to clarify. Integration coaching is available to support the translation of ceremonial insight into lasting change. The window of heightened neuroplasticity that follows ceremony is real, and using it intentionally makes a measurable difference.

Common Questions

Iboga Ceremony FAQ

How long is the iboga ceremony?

The active ceremony phase lasts 12–24 hours, depending on the individual and the dosage. Following the active phase, a recovery period of 2–3 days is standard. Most participants feel tired, emotionally open, and sensitive during this period — it is important to have this time cleared and supported.

Will I be alone during ceremony?

No. A facilitator and an on-site medical professional are present throughout the ceremony. You are monitored continuously — heart rate, blood pressure, and other vital signs are tracked. You will not be left alone.

What does the experience feel like?

The experience is typically described as entering a waking dream state. Vivid, highly detailed autobiographical memories arise. Patterns across one's life become visible with a clarity that is not available in ordinary consciousness. There is often a quality of reviewing one's life from a perspective slightly outside oneself — seeing it as it actually was, rather than as it was experienced at the time. It is not pleasant in the conventional sense. It is clear.

Will I hallucinate?

Visionary content is common — particularly in the early hours of the ceremony. The visions are typically autobiographical or symbolic rather than abstract. They tend to relate directly to the material that needs to be addressed. As the ceremony progresses, the visionary content often gives way to a quieter but no less intense inner review.

How many sessions are required?

For most people, a single ceremony produces significant and lasting change. Some people choose to return for a subsequent ceremony after a period of integration. The decision is individual — and one we discuss during the intake process rather than in advance.

What if I can't afford the full cost?

We discuss pricing transparently during the intake process. We do not currently offer payment plans. If the cost is a genuine barrier, we recommend beginning the conversation anyway — there are occasionally circumstances where arrangements can be made.
